I definitely didn’t set out to become a therapist!
I came from humble beginnings, growing up in northern England, joined the Royal Navy at 16, and spent five years as a mechanical engineer and diver before leaving the Navy and moving to Australia and starting a family.
In my early twenties, a serious injury and the mental health crisis that followed changed the direction of my life. I found the support available at the time limited, and I got curious — about the human mind, about relationships, about what actually helps people heal. That curiosity took me through many interesting twists and turns to eventually become my career and passion.
Since then I’ve trained across counselling, coaching, and relational therapy, working with individuals, men’s groups, and — increasingly, and now primarily — couples. I have completed a Masters in Counselling, Bachelor of Psycholoy and have trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and Relational Life Therapy. I am also the author of the book The (R)Evolutionary Man.
What draws me to this work is simple: relationships are where we do our deepest growing, and also where we get most stuck. I bring both training and lived experience to help couples find their way through conflict and disconnection, back to each other.
